FOUR Mutare men have appeared in court for allegedly stealing 13 000 litres of diesel worth $41 660 from a Zuva Service Station in Mutare. Liberty Mukuto (26), Nolan Manyuchi (32), Brain Mutsoni (45) and Tendai Mufambeni (39) appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe and were remanded to June 7 on $1 000 bail each.

The State alleges that on May 17 at around 10pm, the four connived to steal diesel from Zuva Service Station at Number 1 Chimanimani Road, Mutare.
The diesel had been reserved for prepaid customers.

Manyuchi allegedly instructed Mukuto to drive his tanker to the service station where Mutsoni and Mufambeni were on duty as fuel pump attendants.

The two loaded the vehicle with 13 000 litres of diesel under the cover of darkness. Acting on a tip-off, Officer Commanding Police Mutare District, Chief Superintendent Florence Marume and a team of officers intercepted the gang, but Mukoto drove off with loaded tanker.

Police followed them to Manyuchi’s garage, but Mukuto escaped.
The fuel tanker with the stolen diesel valued $41 660 was subsequently impounded by the police.
Mukuto and his gang were arrested on Wednesday last week.
