Man up for raping niece (11)

in court facing rape charges.
The man was not formally charged when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa, who remanded him out of custody on US$50 bail. It is the State’s case that the girl’s aunt fell sick and left home for Chitungwiza to stay with her mother-in-law while receiving medication.
It is alleged she left the girl in the custody of the uncle, who is said to have taken advantage of the situation and continuously called the girl into his bedroom where he sexually abused her. It is alleged that he threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone.
The State says the girl had an infection on her private parts, which prompted her mother to take her to a local clinic for treatment but she did not report the case to the police.
The girl’s mother is alleged to have taken her to her father’s place, where her stepmother discovered she was having difficulties in walking. The girl is alleged to have told her stepmother, who later reported the rape to the police leading to the uncle’s arrest.
