respect spirit mediums, Govt told

have the potential to unlock the problems facing the country.
Cde Munjeyi, of Zanu-PF, criticised traditional and political leaders for neglecting the spirit mediums despite their contribution to the liberation of Zimbabwe.

He was speaking during a rain-making ceremony in Wedza on Saturday. “The problems we are facing today are caused by negligence to the spirit mediums.
“We used to respect them and they would always lead us during the liberation struggle,” he said.
“With the coming of independence people have turned their backs on the spirit mediums and even our political leaders who used to know their importance in the war no longer value them.

“There is a great belief that our problems will be solved if we correct our mistakes.”
He said spirit mediums used to dictate every policy before independence.

“Before and during the war we were guided by them and they were the ones who chose chiefs and gave them ideas on how to govern their respective areas,” he said.
“But years down the line the spirits are the ones suffering without anyone giving them an eye and this has angered the ancestors and a bad spell has been cast on the country.

Cde Munjeyi said there should be communication between spirit mediums and chiefs for the development of the nation.
The ceremony was attended by hundreds of villagers in the area.
