Man uses Shamuyarira’s name in vain

Kuwadzana 1, would dupe unsuspecting people after misrepresenting to them that he had close links with top Government officials, especially Cde Shamuyarira.

Gomo reportedly collected large sums of money from the complainants on the pretext Cde Shamuyarira would facilitate whatever they wanted.

This comes a week after another suspected fraudster, Michael Chizarura (40) was arrested for allegedly using the name of Deputy Commissioner General Godwin Matanga in defrauding a businessman he had helped to win a Government tender.

Chizarura was denied bail and remanded in custody to January 30.
Gomo yesterday appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Reuben Mukavhi charged with fraud involving US$88 500. He was remanded to February 12 on US$300 bail.

Prosecutor Ms Revai Mudozori alleges that between October last year and January this year, Gomo swindled Rosemary Makwasha of US$38 210 cash. He misrepresented to Makwasha that he was close to Cde Shamuyarira and would secure goods and property for her under various Government programmes.

Makwasha was made to pay the money in installments. Using the same method Gomo duped Joel Gutura of cash amounting to US$33 871, it is alleged. It is the State’s case that sometime this month, Thomas Kesai lost US$15 480 to Gomo. Another complainant, Ngonidzashe Chinyama, lost US$880 to Gomo. Chinyama, the court heard, wanted to process his Visa and to register his new vehicle.

Gomo misrepresented to him that he was connected to Cde Shamuyarira hence the process would be shorter.
Mr Cephas Mavhondo of Mhishi Legal Practice is representing Gomo.
