EAGLESVALE High school successfully hosted an inaugural T20 national schools cricket festival which ended yesterday.
The three-day festival attracted 24 secondary schools.
This was the first time Eaglesvale hosted such a competitive tournament.
Hosts Eaglesvale, Hillcrest, Watershed, Petra, Gateway, Westridge, Milton, Wise Owl, SOS Bindura, Shamva, St Johns Emerald Hill, Kwekwe, Highfield, Marondera, Budiriro 1, Mufakose 1 and 2, Prince Edward, Churchill, Heritage, Mazowe, Jameson and Goldridge were some of the schools which took part.
Festival director, Cyprian Mandenge, told The Herald hailed the event.
“One of the biggest challenges we encountered was time management, we were supposed to start the first games at eight for us to be able to play 12 games a day and, somehow, we managed.
“It was a cricket festival, like the annual rugby school festivals, and there was no outright winner.
“We are in a process of selecting a national team through engagements from such tournaments so that we have players to represent us in international events.
“We managed to identify some raw talent during the process and in terms of performance Hillcrest, Kwekwe, Highfield, Eaglesvale and Milton played good cricket,” he said.
