Cde Mangena (53) died from severe nose bleeding and chest pains at the clinic’s intensive care unit. Midlands Governor Cde Jaison Machaya delivered condolence message on behalf of President Mugabe.

“I would like to pass condolence on behalf of the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces on the death of Cde Mangena. I want to say go well you worked well and we will follow in future,” he said.

Speakers praised Cde Mangena for his unwavering support of the struggle and his distinguished political career after the war.

Speaking at the burial ceremony Zanu-PF secretary for information and publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo said today’s Politburo meeting was likely to determine Cde Mangena’s hero status.

“People in Mberengwa made a request that he be declared a national hero and the province made the recommendations to the Politburo. Discussions are on-going on his hero status and a decision will likely be made during tomorrow’s Politburo meeting,” he said.

Cde Gumbo said it was befitting that Cde Mangena had been given a befitting send-off by various Zanu-PF officials from across the nation that he worked with since he joined the party.

“I am happy that those people who worked with Jabulami in the Youth League are here to pay their last respects. As the Midlands province we are happy that you are here to mourn with us,” he said.

Among some of the senior members that were present include were secretary for the Youth League Cde Absalom Sikhosana, Politburo members comrades Saviour Kasukuwere, Francis Nhema and Patrick Zhuwawo. Other senior Zanu-PF members included Mashonaland Central chairman Cde Dickson Mafios and several Zanu-PF members of parliament.

Cde Sikhosana said the death of Cde Mangena was a sad loss but said he was happy that he died while he had contributed immensely to the development of the country.
