DYNAMOS coach Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe does not need reminding — his team’s numbers are already screaming loud enough.
Four points from a possible 18. No win since April 5. A derby defeat to CAPS United. Eight points behind their bitter rivals after just 12 games.
For a club of Dynamos’ size, that is not poor form; it is dangerous territory.
And this afternoon at Rufaro, against a struggling Triangle United he knows well, Mangombe walks into what feels less like another fixture and more like a test of whether his project still has pulse.
Dynamos fans have been patient, some surprisingly so, but patience at DeMbare is never endless.
Not when results keep slipping and not when a team built on expectation starts looking ordinary.
“Dynamos fans want their team to win, it’s simple as that. This is a big team with a rich history,” said die-hard supporter and businessman James Pande.
That is the reality Mangombe is dealing with. At Dynamos, history does not buy you time, results do.
DeMbare’s current run reads badly. Four draws, two defeats and a worrying habit of switching off when it matters most.
They let CAPS punish them late in the derby after conceding a needless penalty. They then failed again to protect a lead against Herentals midweek, conceding a last-gasp equaliser at Rufaro.
Two matches, two late defensive lapses, four dropped points and growing noise from the terraces.
Midfielder Telmore Pio knows exactly what is at stake.
“We just have to get three points, nothing less,” he said. “Everyone is feeling the pain and we know our fans are in pain.
“We have to make them happy because they matter a lot to us. Once again, I am urging them to come in large numbers.”
His words are honest, but at Dynamos, words only travel so far. Fans now want proof.
There is at least one reason for hope. Triangle United arrive in Harare leaking badly themselves.
The Sugar Boys have won just twice in 12 outings, sit fourth from the bottom and have never beaten Dynamos in a league match in Harare.
Now under Lloyd Chitembwe, a man who knows Rufaro better than most, Triangle are desperate too, but their numbers suggest vulnerability rather than resurgence.
On paper, this is exactly the kind of match Dynamos should use to stop the bleeding.
But that is where the pressure lies.
This is no longer just about collecting points. It is about restoring belief, calming an anxious fan base and proving that Mangombe still has control of a team drifting dangerously close to crisis.
The irony adds another laye: Triangle are Mangombe’s former paymasters, and few know the Sugar Boys better than him.
That familiarity could work in Dynamos’ favour.
Or, if things go wrong, it could deepen the questions because at DeMbare, six matches without a win is already uncomfortable.
