After watching Team Zimbabwe win their first two African Games matches, Steve Mangongo believes nurturing talent will help Zimbabwe become the cricket powerhouse it should be.
Mangongo and his lads arrived in Accra, Ghana having endured an eight-hour delay in Nairobi, Kenya to tough West African conditions and high temperatures but still managed to overcome these and other adversities to put themselves in shape to replicate the Lady Chevrons stunning African Games Super Over victory over Team South Africa in the final.
Team Zimbabwe trained on unfamiliar pitches that have often been softish and sandy, but they have had to adopt amd adopt they did which was a key element that allowed them to perform.
Two wins out of two leaves them focusing on Nigeria.
Mangongo spoke to B Metro Online from Accra, Ghana: ” It is key that our batting group especially top order be solid and lay a foundation. This how we have been playing and this is how we should play. I have seen some lads with really good potential and all they need is to be nurtured in tough environments such as these ones. It’s a process.”
Mangongo revealed that Rodney Mupfudza and Jonathan Campbell showed signs that they can step up with the bat at the highest level while Chataira bowled with pace.
He also described the pair of spinners Ola Muzondo and Wallace Mubaiwa as “capable operators”.
