DIANA “Mangwenya” Samkange and Sasha Amadhuve are more than sisters in showbiz.
The mbira songbirds and self-proclaimed spiritualists have pledged to preserve Zimbabwean culture and tradition by forming an alliance.
Under the pact, the two will be exchanging notes and teaching fans how to retrace their roots during a live show.
This weekend, the pair launches its campaign at Bar Rouge, housed at LongCheng Plaza.
Tonight, Mangwenya plays at the upmarket venue while Sasha will be in charge tomorrow.
“We are glad that there are still young people who love their culture and we will do our best to ensure that we help them.
“In my case, I am using mbira music and I am glad I have a caring sister like Sasha Amadhuve who is also not ashamed to preserve her roots.
“I will definitely complement her,” said Mangwenya, ahead of her performance at Bar Rouge tonight.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Amadhuve who has been reviving the legacy of the late Edna “Mbuya Madhuve” Chizema.
“It feels good preserving our culture in the capital where most people are now shunning their roots.
“I have always declared that Mbira music is here to stay and I will complement Mangwenya.
“I will perform at the same venue on Saturday after Mangwenya’s act on Friday.
“As usual, I will be there supporting her and I hope she will also return the favour,” said Amadhuve.
Bar Rouge entertainment manager, Edith Chimanikire, said it was all systems go.
“We are here to assist artists who have a vision, such as Mangwenya and Sasha .
“You can’t talk of culture and forget the two hardworking women in showbiz.
“We are happy to be doing business with them as well as hosting their two shows where they are promoting our culture,” she said.
