As the 2025 football season approaches, GreenFuel coach Taurai Mangwiro has outlined ambitious plans to elevate the team’s performance, addressing key weaknesses from the previous campaign.

With a renewed focus on consistency and a bolstered squad, Mangwiro is determined to steer GreenFuel to a stronger finish in the upcoming season.

Reflecting on the challenges of the 2024 season, Mangwiro highlighted the team’s struggles in away matches as a critical area for improvement.

GreenFuel will face CAPS United, Ngezi Platinum, Highlanders, Bikita Minerals, and Yadah in the opening five matches.
“We observed that our conversion rate was poor on the road, and we hope to improve on that,” he said.

“We want to ensure that we finish in a better position on the log, as we were in a precarious position for most of last season.”
To address these issues, Mangwiro has made significant additions to the squad, bringing in a mix of experienced players and promising young talent.

Among the new signings are the Chikwende brothers, Perfect and Emmanuel, who are expected to add depth and creativity to the team’s attack.

Collin Mujuru and Ronald Chitiyo, joined from Nyasa Bullets of Malawi, alongside Marlon Mushonga from Yadah.
They recruited three new goalkeepers Frank Kuchinei, Ashley Rayners and Victor Machopa from Bikita Minerals, as well as two young local players who impressed during trials.

Mangwiro expressed confidence in the balance of his squad.
“We look stable with the old guard as well as the recruits. We hope we now have a team that can compete, and let’s just hope for the best,” he said.

The coach also emphasised the importance of a strong start to the season, particularly given the challenging nature of GreenFuel’s opening fixtures.

“In our opening matches, three are at home and two are on the road,” Mangwiro noted.

“None of the games look easy. We have to be at our best to salvage points. We don’t want to (underestimate) our opponents, but we want to give our all and pick up points to avoid pressure from the start.”
