THE Manica Post health reporter, Tendai Gukutikwa, this afternoon scooped the first prize in the print category at the National Aids Council Media Awards held in Harare.
The ceremony, attended by prominent figures in the media and health sectors, recognised outstanding journalism work in HIV and AIDS reporting.
Presenting the awards, National Aids Council chief executive officer, Dr Bernard Madzima, praised the winners for their dedication to raising awareness about HIV and AIDS.
“Your work is crucial in shaping public discourse and promoting a more informed and empathetic society,” he said.
Representing Health and Child Care Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, NAC board chair, Mrs Nester Mukwewa stressed the importance of accurate reporting in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
“Your stories have the power to educate, inspire, and save lives. We commend your commitment to telling the stories that matter most. Through your reporting, you have amplified the HIV voice to those affected by HIV and AIDS, humanised their experiences, educated the public on the benefits of adherence to treatment, getting tested and prevention methods. You have held us accountable, ensuring that the national response remains a priority,” he said.
In an interview, Ms Gukutikwa said: “I am grateful for the award as it motivates me to keep pushing the boundaries of health reporting and to continue making a positive impact in the community.”
