A MUTARE man who robbed a person while wielding a machete, before stripping him naked in Dangamvura, was arrested this week after the victim identified him on the streets.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, saying the suspec, Talent Tapfumaneyi (30) has since been arrested.
He said Tapfumaneyi and an unknown accomplice, had in April robbed Carlos Makiwa (21), of US$10 and cellphone in Dangamvura.
“April 26, at 7.30pm, Makiwa was walking from Home Ownership Dangamvura to TM Complex Centre, Dangamvura. Upon arrival at the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, he was approached by Tapfumaneyi who by that time he did not know and another unknown male who came from the bush.
“The two grabbed Makiwa and assaulted him twice on the face with open hands and stripped him all of his clothes,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
He said one of the two men went on to search Makiwa and took US$10 from his pocket and cellphone.
“They also stole his Samsung A03 core cellphone as they held a machete to intimidate him. After the act, they both vanished into the darkness. Makiwa made a police report,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
On May 13, Makiwa met Tapfumaneyi and dashed to ZRP Dangamvura to file a report, leading to his arrest.
