A CARNIVAL atmosphere will permeate Mutare Boys’ High School sports fields as sports players above the age of 30 will be roaming in the football fields tomorrow (Saturday) when The Manica Post Health and Wellness rolls into life.
The inaugural Manica Post Health and Wellness Day, a brainchild of the Zimpapers news outlet, is an initiative that seek to promote healthy lifestyles for adults.
Players above the age of 30 will engage in social soccer, with a total of 12 teams confirming their participation.
Apart from social soccer, netball and basketball teams will battle it out at the same venue.
The Manica Post Editor, Wendy Nyakurerwa-Matinde said: “We are excited to be hosting the inaugural Health and Wellness Day. This is an event that is two pronged in that it is meant to promote healthy lifestyles among adults.
“At the same time, the event is also meant to promote businesses as several corporates will also be taking part. It is a time to interact and strike business deals in a relaxed environment.
“It is also imperative to note that the event is gender sensitive in that it is not only catering for males, but ladies as well. We will have netball games at the same venue. This promises to be an exciting event,” she said.
Nyakurerwa-Matinde said the initiative will be held once every quarter.
“We have future plans for this event as we seek to play our part as a responsible corporate citizen in promoting healthy lifestyles as well as promoting business. Therefore, we will be hosting this event four times in a year.
“We are thankful to the corporates and teams that have responded to our call to participate in this event,” she said.
Teams that will partner in the inaugural edition of The Manica Post Health and Wellness Day include ZCDC, Green Fuel, Harare-based Protector Rangers, Rusape-based duo of Vengere Boozers and All Stars, Elite Collections, Nyanga Legends, Dangamvura-based Quarry, Chipolopolo, Mercenaries, Igwe Stars and the hosts, Zimpapers Mutare.
For basketball, Mercenaries, Sophists, Sakubva and Chiefs will be fielding their social basketball teams.
Netball games sporting entertainment will be provided by the Manicaland Netball Division One League bubble.
The league will have its bubble five at the event.
