THE annual Manicaland amateur golf championships will tee off with over 100 golfers expected to converge at Hillside Golf Club in Mutare this morning.

The two-day event has some national order of merit points and Stuart Krogg, the leading amateur golf player, is expected to dominate.

Krogg will have to contend with several players who are doing well in the amateur events who include Doctor Maphosa, Visitor Mapwanya, among other top players.

The amateur golfers will take part in the event after they also participated in the Matebeleland Amateur Championships recently.

The field will miss four leading amateurs with Kieren Vincent, Jack Allard, David Amm and Justin Kirsten in Japan for the Toyota World Junior Championships.

The Zimbabwe Golf Association vice-president, Boniface Chigorimbo, said they were expecting a large field.

“The two-day event is likely to have a huge turnout as it has some order of merit points which everyone looks forward to,” said Chigorimbo.
