CHIPINGE District’s Mt Selinda High School last week played host to the 2015 National Association of Secondary Heads national Under-17 boys’ and girls’ handball finals, where Kwekwe High and Kuwadzana High schools ruled the roost. The tournament started last Thursday and ended on Saturday.
In an interview, NASH head-in-charge of handball, Wilfred Madhuku, commended the participating schools for sterling performances that were clear evidence of the abundance of talent in the country.
“The tournament went well and the matches were really exciting. It was a memorable day to cherish as we witnessed Kuwadzana High School claiming the Under-17 girls’ championship and Kwekwe High School winning in the U-17 boys,” said Madhuku.
There were 10 provincial representatives for both boys and girls for this year’s finals.
Kuwadzana High School beat second-placed Harare Girls’ High School in the girls final. They both represented the Harare Metropolitan Province. Daramombe High from Masvingo Province secured third position.
Midlands Province was being represented by the traditional giants, Kwekwe High and the school performed up to expectations as they claimed the U-17 boys title after outplaying J Z Moyo High from Matebeleland North Province in the final finals.
J Z Moyo automatically came second, while Bradley High School in Mashonaland Central settled for third position.
Madhuku said the tournament was an event to remember since there was a lot of entertainment provided by Gaza High School and Chibuwe High School in Chipinge.
“Entertainment boosted morale of the participants and left guests clamouring for more. It created a carnival atmosphere,” said NASH Manicaland head-in-charge of handball.
