ZANU-PF Manicaland Youth League is working towards sending one of the biggest delegations to this year’s 21st Movement celebrations to be held at the Great Zimbabwe Monuments in Masvingo later this month.
The provincial executive has since come up with a fundraising committee, which is being chaired by Cde Taurai Chiripamberi and is leaving no stone unturned to surpass the $30 000 target given by the national executive.
The committee’s spokesperson, Cde Kudzi Madhara, said their aim was to surpass the $30 000 target so that they would be able to host their own provincial celebrations soon after the Masvingo celebrations.
“We have hit the ground running and we are happy with the response we are getting from the corporate world and members of the public. Everyone now understands the importance of these celebrations because we will be celebrating the life of our iconic leader, the lion of Africa, President Mugabe.
“We are neighbours with Masvingo and we should take advantage of our proximity with that province to take as many youths as possible to the celebrations. Some of the youths will be meeting their idol for the first time and we should accord them that chance. Our aim is to have at least two buses from each Zanu-PF administration district in Manicaland carrying people to the celebrations. For this to materialise we need to intensify our fundraising campaigns in all the districts,” said Cde Madhara.
Cde Madhara said their fundraising programmes include a dinner dance pencilled for February 20 as well as Miss 21st beauty pageant set for February 19.
He said: “At the dinner dance, we have targeted Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko to be the guest of honour. VP Mphoko will have a table of his own and all those who want to sit with him have to fork out $1 000. Those who want to have a photo session with him will also part with something.
“We will have different categories of tables from diamond ($20 000), gold ($10 000), silver ($5 000) and bronze ($1 000). Individuals are also welcomed and will pay $100. We are not out to rip-off people, but to give our President the honour he deserves for being the voice of the voiceless.”
He said as the youth league it was their desire to follow President Mugabe’s footsteps as he had proved to be an unwavering cadre.
“We have a lot to learn from President Mugabe as a person and as a leader. Zimbabwe is what it is today because of President Mugabe’s great leadership qualities. He is a selfless leader who is always willing to stand up for his people.
“Zimbabwe has won a lot of admiration from across the world because of President Mugabe’s heroic acts of standing up against the oppressors. He is fearless and articulates the challenges facing Africa and other third world countries clearly. We are a blessed nation and we should take time to celebrate the birthday of our God-given leader, President Mugabe,” he said.
On the issue of unity among the provincial executive members, Cde Madhara said: “We are happy with the unity of purpose among executive members.
“We are now speaking with one voice although there are some elements who are trying to throw spanners in our work.
“We know them, but we will excel because no-one is bigger than the party.
“For us, we can safely say its systems all go because we are pulling in the same direction in all our activities.”
