MORE than 2 000 scouts from different parts of the country as well as a contingent from Zambia have converged in Mutare for the exciting 2023 edition of the National Scout Camp set for this weekend.
For the scouting community across the country, all roads are leading to Chenziwa Scout Park in Vumba for this year’s National Camp which is being hosted by Manicaland Scout Province from yesterday to August 6.
The National Scout Camp is the organisation’s biggest event on their annual calendar.
Manicaland Scout Association chairman, Mr Ernest Mungwari confirmed that the province is hosting this year’s edition of the annual event.
“The National Scout Camp is the biggest event on our calendar, and this event rotates within scout provinces. It was last held in Manicaland in 2017. This year, we are hosting more than 2 000 scouts from across the country,” said Mr Mungwari.
Among a litany of activities lined up for this year is the touring of places of interest around Vumba, including the Botanical Gardens, Vumba Heights and Nyachowa Falls, among others.
Mr Mungwari said: “We will also have team building activities lined up and more educational topics to be discussed, including ways to desist drug and substance abuse.
“We are expecting a top official from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to grace the event. We will also officially open our mega hall for public use. The hall will be open for church gatherings, conferences and weddings.”
During this year’s National Scout Camp a big delegation of scouts from Zambia is also expected to be in attendance.
Mr Mungwari said Manicaland scouts will be represented by a St Patrick’s High School Nyanyadzi learner, Clementine Tanaka, who will join 10 other scouts from other provinces for the world scout jamboree to be held in Korea this August.
