MANICALAND welcomes the grand entrance of the First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe, into politics and will rally behind her, says Zanu-PF provincial chairman Ambassador Dr John Shumba Mvundura.Dr Mugabe is expected to address thousands of supporters at a special event scheduled for Sakubva Stadium today (Friday).
Speaking during an extraordinary provincial co-ordination committee meeting held at Mutare Polytechnic last Saturday attended by Politburo members, among them national secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa, outgoing national secretary for women affairs Cde Oppah Muchinguri, Cde Munacho Mutezo, Central Committee members, National Consultative Assembly members, legislators and provincial leadership, Ambassador Mvundura said Manicaland was fully behind Dr Mugabe’s nomination to lead the Women’s League.
“Dr Mugabe is our mother as Zimbabweans and we are fully behind her nomination to lead the Women’s League. She is coming to our province on October 10 (today) and we will mobilise people from all walks of life to turn out for this event. This will be an opportunity for our mother to thank the electorate for rallying behind Zanu-PF during last year’s harmonised elections.
“We are very eager and anxious to receive her in our province especially after her nomination to take up a leadership position in our party. I can assure you that her Manicaland visit will be a great success and will leave long-lasting memories among all those who will be in attendance,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion, Cde Mutasa urged people to come in their numbers to welcome Dr Mugabe.
“As Manicaland, we are proud to welcome Dr Mugabe to our province. I want to take this opportunity to thank Cde Muchinguri for organising that Manicaland should be among the first provinces to host Dr Mugabe. We will be there in our numbers to welcome her,” said Cde Mutasa.
Speaking earlier at the same meeting, Ambassador Mvundura had castigated some party affiliates like the Zimbabwe War Collaborators’ Association for breaching protocol by trying to invite Dr Mugabe to their function that had been slated for October 17 in Odzi without the knowledge of the provincial leadership.
“For the first time in our 34 years in the history of independent Zimbabwe we were invited to a function by one of our affiliates, something which we had no knowledge of. It came as a surprise to be invited to attend a function to be graced by a national leader when it is supposed to be vice-versa.
“We should follow protocol. We do not want to humiliate each other and we should work in harmony. We gathered that Ziliwaco through Cde Muponda said they had decided to invite Amai Mugabe to Manicaland on their own
because the provincial leadership is against the First Lady’s entry into politics and we say this is nonsense and we do not tolerate such kind of misinformation. As a province we are all behind Dr Mugabe and we do not know where all these lies are coming from. We should speak from an informed position.
“We agreed without debate in our previous meeting that the First Lady should be supported in her elevation to lead the women’s league.
“We do not want divisive elements in our province,” said Ambassador Mvundura.
