AS part of Government’s broader initiative to modernise the country’s road network, the rehabilitation of the crucial 120km Murambinda-Birchenough Bridge Road in Manicaland Province has commenced.
“We are satisfied with progress in the rehabilitation of the roads in Manicaland. The Nyanga-Ruwangwe Road has received a facelift, while work on Murambinda- Birchenough Road is ongoing. This is the Second Republic in action,” said Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza.
The rehabilitation work has already begun, with the contractor now on-site and working on the first phase of the project.
According to the deputy Manicaland Provincial Roads Engineer, Mr Patrick Muropa, the scope of the works includes resurfacing the road with a 20mm asphalt overlay, and the contractor is on target with all the necessary machinery already on the ground.
The contractor, Engineer Shelton Ncube, has also managed to clear the bushes and start digging the apartment foundations and footings for the bridge.
The longest single stretch of gravel road in Manicaland will soon have a new look, courtesy of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme, which is more than just laying asphalt and cement. It is a pathway to transforming communities, improving connectivity, and fostering economic growth across Zimbabwe.
