FOLLOWING her call-up to the Zimbabwe netball national team final camp for the Vitality Netball World Cup, Lorraine Manjoro’s dream is to make the final team that will represent the country in Cape Town, South Africa, next month.
The global showpiece is due to take place from July 28 to August 6.
Manjoro, who plays centre and wing attack, was part of the eight players that travelled to Liverpool, England for the 2019 World Cup as part of the Zimbabwe Netball Association’s development programme.
Her hope this time around is to make the final team that will compete at this year’s edition.
“My wish is definitely to play in the 12. Obviously travelling with the team is a great honour. It’s better than someone who is at home but I wish to finish my career or at least have a World Cup appearance in my name during my career.
“I still have a few years left. So this World Cup, if I make it, will be like the best ever. So I wish to be part of the 12 that’s playing,” said the 29-year-old.
Manjoro’s last appearance for the Gems was in 2019 at the Africa Cup in South Africa. It was the senior national team’s last competitive competition before the covid-19 outbreak that saw them inactive for two years.
Manjoro also took a maternity break before she bounced back last year.
“I am really excited and it means a lot to be back. It means even when I was away the technical team knew that someone was there and they considered me for this campaign. So it really means a lot to me as a person and as an athlete.
“I think with the time left, the team just needs a bit of cohesion. I am sure fitness wise everyone is probably at the same level. In the remaining few weeks we just need to work on some combinations and then we are good to go,” said Manjoro.
