Eric “Cantona” Manokore’s tenure at CAPS United has ended abruptly, with the defender forced out of the club just months after being stripped of the captaincy.
His contract was terminated, paving the way for a move to GreenFuel, though final details are still being ironed out.
Sources close to the player reveal a bitter fallout following his crucial penalty miss against MWOS, which sparked accusations of sabotage.
“Everything changed after that penalty,” said a source close to the player.
“He was accused of favouring MWOS, his hometown club in Norton. The environment became too hostile for him to perform.” Despite the coach’s willingness to keep him, club executives reportedly pushed for his exit, leaving Manokore no choice but to depart by mutual consent.
Now, he prepares for a fresh start at GreenFuel despite interest shown by other clubs.
“He has opted to ink a deal with GreenFuel despite clubs stampeding for his signature.
“He believes the Chisumbanje-based side can be the best launchpad to revive his playing career again.
“At some point, he seems to have been staying at CAPS United but the environment was no longer conducive for him hence moving out.”
CAPS United CEO Morton Dodzo said the separation with Manokore and Hastings Chapusha was agreed upon by both parties.
“It was a mutual decision, best for both sides,” said Dodzo.
“These players had opportunities elsewhere, and we had our own considerations. As a club, we never block a player’s progress when better prospects arise.
“The agreement was fair, good for them, good for us. They wanted to move on, and we’re creating space for fresh talent.”
CAPS United could still add more new signings.
“We’re assessing our options,” Dodzo added. “But make no mistake, we are strengthening the squad for what’s ahead.”
