Manondo extends lead on PSL goal scorers chart

CAPS United striker William Manondo extended his lead on the all-time goal scorers chart to 15 when scoring the opening and third goal against Hwange at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

Manondo was on target in the 12th and 41st minutes.

He was on 83 goals before the match, and now sits on 85 goals.

His two goals enabled Caps to win 3-0.

In second spot is his teammate Rodwell Chinyengetere with 70 goals.

Manondo started at Kiglon and went on to play for FC Platinum, Gunners and Harare City on his way to amassing his goal tally.

For his efforts, he has been capped twice by his country.

Manondo is a typical goal poacher with a high work rate, whose other strength is positioning in the box.

Chinyengetere, an attacking midfielder, has played for Hwange and FC Platinum. He spent close to two years on the sidelines after breaking one of his shins.

He had a break again from Zimbabwe football when he moved to South Africa.

With three calendar appearances as Zimbabwe Player of the Year, Chinyengetere has been one of the standout stars in the Premiership over the past decade.

At 36, he does not look like he can overtake 31-year-old Manondo.

Simba Bhora’s Walter Musona, who also had a stint in South Africa, is tied on third with another CAPS over 30 brigade, Lot Chiwunga and Ngezi Platinum Stars’ Moses Demera with 52.

The Castle Lager Premiership has been home to some of the finest strikers in the land such as Stewart Murisa, Adam Ndlovu, Maronga Nyangela, Norman Maroto, Sandras Kumwenda, Zenzo Moyo, Thabani Masawi, Ralph Matema and Gilbert Zulu.

Manondo must rate himself high up there among the best.
