AN ANGRY and intoxicated woman was spared jail sentence for biting her neighbour’s finger, leaving it hanging over who was supposed to pay R10 for a Honda Fit fare.
Sithembinkosi Masuka (30) from Montgomery plots in her plea before Bulawayo magistrate Makelo Ncube facing an assault charge.
She pleaded guilty to the charge and apologised for her wayward actions and further said she had acted under the influence of booze.
In her defence, she said: “I am really sorry your Worship. On the day in question I was heavily drunk.”
This week on Tuesday the magistrate convicted her and sentenced her to serve eight months in jail. The court suspended four months on condition that she does not commit any offence which involves violence for a period of three months. The remaining four months were suspended on condition that she performs 140 hours of community service at Fairbridge Police Station.
The court heard that Masuka and her drinking partner Wiseman Salmoh (31) were boozing at one of the drinking spots at Montgomery plots and on the day in question they left the drinking hole at around 11.30pm and boarded a Honda Fit to their homes.
However, an argument broke out when it was time to pay. The court heard Salmoh requested R10 transport fare from Masuka to pay, after that things turned nasty for him.
In a fit of rage, the court heard, Masuka rained blows on her drinking mate, as if that was not enough she bit his index finger and left it hanging. Salmoh reported the incident to the police leading to the arrest of Masuka.
