CHARLES Manyuchi was bathing on Sunday morning when he noticed a sudden surge of WhatsApp messages on his mobile phone.

The device also started ringing several times but he couldn’t answer.

When he finally got to attend to his phone he got the shock of his life. A lot of people, including relatives and friends, were congratulating him.

“Then I was like, for what,” Manyuchi recalls.

The former World Boxing Council Silver welterweight champion then realised he had been gifted a vehicle worth US$75,000 plus US$10,000 from Wicknell Chivayo.

Manyuchi needed some verification for him to believe. He quickly visited Chivayo’s Facebook page and the confirmation was there.

Manyuchi collected his Toyota GD 6 vehicle and cash on Monday.

He says he is still in shock.

The former WBC Silver welterweight champion is one of the best boxers to emerge from this land.

Arifonso “Mosquito” Zvenyika, a former Commonwealth champion, was also gifted a Toyota Aqua and US$20,000 cash on Monday.

In 2016, Manyuchi won the WBC Silver welterweight belt and was ranked among the top five welterweight boxers in the world.

That was the time when the legendary Floyd Mayweather ruled the division.

This achievement cemented Manyuchi’s status as a Zimbabwean boxing legend.

Now 37, Manyuchi is into semi-retirement and is now concentrating on promoting upcoming talent through nationwide tournaments.

He also now owns a boxing school, the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy, based in Chivhu.

This was one of the main reasons Chivayo rewarded him.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the generous gift he (Chivayo) extended to me.

“I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude,” Manyuchi said.

The former World Boxing Federation champion believes Chivayo is inspiring many through his philanthropy works.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much Sir Wicknell for your kindness and generosity. Your support means a great deal to me and my family.  It is truly inspiring to see how you continue to uplift and empower people from different walks of life. Mukuru wemazuva, your generosity has touched my life in a special way, and I will always remain grateful.

“May the Almighty God continue to bless you abundantly, grant you good health, wisdom, and increase your capacity to help many more people.”
