Zifa chief executive officer Mashingaidze yesterday reiterated an earlier position taken by Zifa that there would be no sacred cows on the case.
On Wednesday, Zifa said players mentioned in the probe done by Ndumiso Gumede and his team last year would no longer be part of the national team.
That had created the impression that Mapeza and Antipas, who in written submissions acknowledged that the games were just a farce with the Warriors playing for a fixed result, had been spared the axe.
“It would be grossly unfair to punish players alone. We have to go for their superiors on those tours. There were people above them.
“Our position as Zifa is that anyone who was mentioned on that probe should not be anywhere near national teams and that goes for coaches,” said Mashingaidze.
Mapeza is expected to give Zifa a consolidated report on the shortcomings in the failed 2012 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
“He should give us a report of our strengths and weaknesses in that campaign so that we can build on it.
“We also want an action plan on the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and 2014 World Cup campaign,” said Mashingaidze.
It is a standard norm that coaches produce a report to the association after a campaign.
As for the players fingered in the Asiagate scam, Mashingaidze said in the meantime they could continue playing at their respective clubs.
There was a feeling during 2007 to 2010 that coaches working in cahoots with national coaches were after exposing certain players by capping them so that they could become more marketable.
Those that could not be exported ended up at prominent clubs as part of a marketing drive that did not benefit clubs as institutions but players and their agents.
Mashingaidze said they would now be on the lookout for agents.
“We do not want agents telling our coaches who to select. It’s national honour and pride at stake here,” said Mashingaidze.
He noted that the list they have at the moment was not conclusive.
“We are still to get more names as it was a struggle getting these that we have. We think the players will give us more including officials who went on these tours and the role they played,” said Mashingaidze.
He said everyone appearing on the list should not be involved in any national soccer activity until the Justice Ebrahim team is through with its job. The committee took over from the Gumede committee and is expected to get down to business on 15 February and be through by the same date next month.
“This committee will do interviews and so forth from 15 February to mid March when they are expected to be through with their work. It is them who will decide what form of action to be taken depending on an individual’s culpability, there are some who could have
been honest victims who went once while those with multi trips knew what was happening.
“We are saying this is the time to clean the image of the game. We are saying anybody fingered in that report should come forward and give his side of the story, one should tell the Justice Ebrahim probe team what he saw and did and where he went. Everyone will appear before the committee and it would be good if they come on their own to make their submissions. They can write them in the form of an affidavit and send in advance to the Justice Ebrahim committee.
“So these players will not play for the national team until they are cleared by the ad hoc committee. I think we still have a number of players who were not fingered in the report at all like Musa Mguni, Tapuwa Kapini, Esrom Nyandoro, Noel Kaseke, Knowledge Musona and some playing locally. It’s not the end for the Warriors,” said Mashingaidze.
Members of the betting scam, journalists and Zifa employees are alleged to have sat on the bench with some giving instructions as to when the Warriors should concede a goal.
A journalist is alleged to have been one of the substitutes in one trip where organisers sent a small contingent.
The scam has already cost former chief executive officer Henrietta Rushwaya her job amid allegations that she was the link with the betting syndicates. Harry Taruva and Jonathan Musavengana were also suspended and wholesome changes were made at Zifa headquarters last year with several staffers retired or fired.
The Gumede report categorised players and officials in terms of the number of matches one was involved in.
