THE FC Platinum executive have said that they will be pleased if their newly appointed coach, Norman Mapeza, guides them to a top-four finish at the end of the season.Mapeza took over the reins at the Zvishavane-based platinum miners on Monday following the forced resignation of Lloyd Mutasa as head coach.
Speaking at the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony of the former Warriors and Monomotapa coach to the community, FC Platinum chairman Dumisane Sisale said the platinum miners are an ambitious side and as such they would be happy with a top four finish.
“We are happy that we have inducted the coach and he has met the elders of the community who are quite pleased and have shown their appreciation of the new coach.
“To them this is a positive development and as an executive we have not really set targets for Mapeza but as an ambitious club we will be pleased with a top four position,” he said.
Looking ahead of the Chibuku Super Cup which roars to life this afternoon where FC Platinum will lock horns with Bantu Rovers at Mandava Stadium, the “Kugona Kunenge Kudada” chairman said his side is looking to go all the way to the final.
Mapeza, however, said he would not want to put himself under pressure by setting high targets but would rather focus on having the team finish in a “respectable” position.
He said: “For now I do not want to put myself under pressure. At the moment it would be very important for me and the club to focus on coming up with a competitive squad and come at the end of the season we finish on a respectable position on the log.”
