FC Platinum kept alive their title hopes with an impressive win away at 10-man Chegutu Pirates at Baobab yesterday.
The former champions also ended the match one man down.
Two goals in the first half, through Jerimani Selemani and Davison Marowa, put the former champions in control.
Thandwelonkosi Ngwenya added a third to give them an huge boost ahead of another tricky encounter with Ngezi Platinum.
Norman Mapeza’s men started the match on the offensive and surged ahead through Selemani in the 19th minute from a set-piece.
FC Platinum won a free-kick after a crude challenge from Gift Mwinga who received his marching orders and Selemani punished them.
Davison Marowa added a second In the 29th minute after a sloppy defence by the hosts.
In the second half Pirates made several changes, bringing in four players from the bench, in an effort to salvage the match.
The changes paid dividends when veteran Simbarashe “Madhinye” Domingo pulled one from the spot after the referee had adjudged that a defender had handled in the box.
FC Platinum’s Brian Banda was then red carded for persistently complaining to the second assistant referee and both teams would end the match one man down.
Ngwenya then ended the game as a contest with a third after the Pirates rearguard was once again caught napping in the 86th minute with a classic goal.
