FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza remains hopeful of a strong challenge in the final stretch of the Castle Lager Premiership championship chase.
His team were held to a draw at the Greenfuel Arena yesterday.
“We are around nine points behind Simba Bhora with seven games to play, that’s about 21 points to play for, if it was four games remaining we were going to throw in the towel but we are still in it.
“We will fight to the end.
“Coming back to this match, I think we were on top of the situation and on any other day we could have collected maximum points but we will take a point home.
“We have been travelling a lot but we will continue playing our football and we need to focus on our games,” said Mapeza.
FC Platinum started with an upper hand with beautiful exchanges but they were caught on the break.
Clive Rupiya beat an offside trap and raced half the length of the pitch before waiting for Collins Dhuwa to arrive in the box and squaring for him to score.
The visitors regrouped and could have equalised through Oscar Bhebhe but his headed effort was well collected by an alert Tapiwa Chilenga in the 17th minute.
Greenfuel defence could not handle Jarrison Selemani and the lanky winger had a good day in the office.
Selemani connected a Brian Banda cross to head home the equaliser after a short corner.
Greenfuel assistant coach, Taurai Mangwiro, said:
“This is our sixth draw at home from winning positions and that means we have lost twelve points. We need to wake up and start collecting maximum points to save our season.
“FC Platinum are a big team and they are former champions, it’s not like we were giving them too much respect but they are one of the big teams and we will take a point.”
