Mapeza wants Cup final appearance

NORMAN Mapeza has set his sights on reaching the final of the Chibuku Super Cup as he leads his team FC Platinum into battle against Black Rhinos in the semi-finals tomorrow at Rufaro.
The platinum miners are looking to bag their third silverware this year following their success in the Independence Cup where they beat Dynamos in the final in April and the ZNA Charities Cup.

They crushed CAPS United 6-0 to win the ZNA Charities Cup.

All the players were in high spirits except Qadr Amin, who watched the training session from the VIP arena, with an injured right leg.

Mapeza is due to assess his Zimbabwe international youth players — Walter Musona, Wisdom Mutasa and Kelvin Moyo — who were in Swaziland on national team duty.

“I am happy with my squad as I do not have injuries and I am just waiting for the guys who took part in the Under-23 squad that played against Swaziland.

“I will assess them when I get to Harare but I hope they did not get any knocks,” said Mapeza.

The former Warriors coach has already done well since taking over this ambitious side.

“I am still in a process and I have not achieved anything until the end of the season. I am thinking of the Chibuku Cup as well as the last five games of the league.

“It’s a different ball game and the team that wins will go to the next stage.

“Black Rhinos have improved since Mathuthu (Jostein) took over and when we beat them in Kadoma, it was in the dying minutes of the match.

“Every coach and player wants to reach a Cup final and win it and that is our desire.

“In Europe there is the Uefa Cup, the Spanish Cup in Spain and I am working hard to get to the final and see what happens,” said Mapeza.

FC Platinum impressed a lot of neutrals when they were at Rufaro last Saturday as they beat Harare City 2-0.

Striker Donald Ngoma, Zambian import Obrey Chirwa and Michelle Katsvairo are expected to lead the attack tomorrow.

The team also welcomes back defensive midfielder Thabani Kamusoko who is expected to add experience to their midfield and defence.

Gift Bello has worked his way back into the team in a defence that has given very little to the opponents.
