HIGHLANDERS’ hopes for an away win in Mutare in a Castle Lager Premiership match were dealt a major blow yesterday afternoon when the League advised them that Innocent Mapuranga would not be part of the proceedings.“It is obviously a sad blow to the coach’s technical plans. We however have the replacement but what is disturbing is of course the impact on the coach’s plans,” said Bosso chairman Peter Dube last night.
Highlanders left Bulawayo at midday with Mapuranga being part of the team to face Buffaloes. Bosso learnt of Mapuranga’s suspension when they were close to Marange.
Under PSL rules the only authentic word on who is suspended is the League’s official communication.
“After the Zenzo Moyo and Dazzy Kapenya debacle in 1999, it was resolved that the league should advise clubs of who is suspended while there is time. Only the league on the strength of the referees’ reports knows who exactly was cautioned.
“There are times when you think a certain player has been cautioned only to learn later that its a different player. The only authentic authority in that regard is the League which is supposed to advise us as clubs on time so that we make the necessary adjustments,” said Dube.
In 1999 Dube who was secretary and his chairman Roger Muhlwa went ahead and used Kapenya and Moyo who were not eligible for the match against Dynamos and they won 2-0 on their way to winning the championship.
Dube said they would, as a law abiding club, comply with the league though they felt communication should have been received on Thursday.
