TRADITIONAL and religious leaders, especially those in the Marange community, have been hailed by the Government for their positive response to take heed of medical procedures in the fight against the cholera outbreak.
Speaking during a media interactive session on the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programme, to help contain the cholera outbreak, Health Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora said:
“We are also working with our partners and continue to engage with traditional, and religious leaders from various denominations to play a role.
“We have reached out to those in Marange, specifically, because that is the area that was hit hard in the early stages and we have made tremendous progress.
“We appreciate the response we get from the church leaders as well as traditional leaders.
“They have agreed to treat drinking water and also report to our clinics any cases of diarrhoea as soon as possible.”
Added Dr Mombeshora:
“This includes allowing their followers and people under their leadership to report for early treatment and adopt cholera measures that apply to their communities under the Ministry of Health officials in a collaborative way.”
