Marlborough clinic set for upgrade

MARLBOROUGH Satellite Clinic is set to develop into a polyclinic to de-congest other hospitals and clinics in Harare.

Council clinics only offer antenatal and postnatal services, with no deliveries in most low-density suburbs of Harare.

The satellite clinic has no facilities for delivery.

Harare City Council director of health, Michael Vere, said Marlborough Satellite Clinic was set to be upgraded.

“The move to upgrade the satellite clinic to a polyclinic will further diversify services offered by the city in this area, therefore, creating a one-stop shop which brings convenience to the residents of Marlborough.

“The City of Harare has no polyclinics in the low-density suburbs, so it is a first of its kind. Not all residents in the low-density areas can afford maternity services offered in the private sector.”

He added: “The clinic will be offering maternity services, theatre, radiology, laboratory and dental services.

“This extension of services will allow the city to provide, to some extent, secondary care, and reduce the cases of referring other cases to other hospitals.

“This will de-congest hospitals in the long run, hence there is a clear vision to ensure that there is an efficient referral system in Harare.”
