Marondera is facing water challenges with some suburbs having gone for more than a week without the precious liquid.
Marondera Municipality draws its water from Rufaro Dam. Residents are appealing to the local authority to put measures in place to distribute the available water equitably.

In a statement, the council attributed the water challenges to prolonged power supply outages at its water supply stations.

“The municipality would like to inform residents and stakeholders that it has been experiencing significant and prolonged power supply outages at its water supply stations since August 19, 2024 to date,” read the statement.

“As a result, the water supply to the entire municipality has been affected. Consequently, our normal water supply schedule has been disrupted.”

A resident from Yellow City who refused to be named urged council to drill more boreholes around the town for easy access to potable water.

“We have gone for more than a week without water and it seems there is no solution in sight. Going forward, it is now prudent for the local authority to drill more boreholes for us, so that if we cannot have water running into our tapes, we at least have boreholes.”
