THE Chinhoyi Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 36-year-old man to 18 years in prison for abducting and raping a married woman.

The court heard that the 33-year-old married woman from Ruvimbo Phase 1 in Chinhoyi was allegedly abducted by Felix Mumba and raped throughout the night.

Felix, who is also from Ruvimbo Phase 1, denied the charge but was convicted after a full trial.

Two years of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behaviour and the convict will serve an effective 16 years in jail.

The court was told that on July 16, 2023, at around 9 pm, the complainant was on her way to the Charlie Base Police Post in Chikonohono to make a report when she met Mumba, who allegedly proposed love to her.

She rejected his advances, stating that she was married. Mumba persisted, offering money in exchange for sex, but the complainant again refused.

According to the court Mumba then threatened the woman and forcibly led her to his place of residence, where he raped her before releasing her the following morning.
