Married woman dumps baby to appease hubby

A 27-YEAR-OLD married woman dumped her new born baby conceived out of wedlock in a Blair toilet soon after giving birth in a bid to appease her husband.

The baby boy was discovered by a relative but died the following day at Plumtree District Hospital. Blondy Moyo from Nopemano area is being detained under police guard at the hospital.

Moyo told The Chronicle from her hospital bed that she got pregnant while on separation with her husband and when they reconciled he ordered her to abort.

“My husband had gone to South Africa last year and during that time we were on separation although we already had one child together. I remained behind and I fell in love with another man and became pregnant with his baby. We resolved our dispute with my husband but I didn’t know that I was already pregnant,’’ said Moyo.

Moyo said she was against abortion but her husband was continuously beating her up over the issue.

She said she gave birth in her husband’s absence and she decided to throw away the unwanted child.

‘’I got into labour on Monday evening and I was alone as the children had already gone to sleep. I gave birth and I threw the baby in a toilet pit at our homestead,” said Moyo.

‘’I then alerted my aunt who stays at a nearby homestead as I was in great pain. She’s the one who discovered that I had dumped the baby in a toilet.’’

She said her aunt alerted her husband who rushed her to Tokwana Clinic and she was later referred to Plumtree District Hospital.

A village head in the area, Joshua Sibanda, said Moyo and her husband, Johannes Ndebele, were having problems as a result of the pregnancy.

He said the family approached traditional leaders in the area in a bid to resolve the matter and Ndebele maintained that he did not want the child in his life.

Sibanda said the community was shocked when Moyo dumped the baby as they did not expect her to do so.

Matabeleland South Acting Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Thabani Mkhwananzi, said he was yet to receive a report on the incident.
