TELONE coach, Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa, says he is not a one-team coach and is not afraid of new challenges.
Maruwa has already fired warning shots, with a statement win against Triangle United.
The Wi-Fi Boys are now preparing to face Dynamos at Rufaro tomorrow.
It’s another homecoming show for Maruwa, who was groomed at the Harare giants, before taking over as head coach in 2023.
He lasted until August of that year, when he was replaced by Genesis Mangombe.
Maruwa returns to Rufaro tomorrow seeking a win, which will unfortunately pile more pressure on his former paymasters.
Dynamos have played two goalless draws against ZPC Kariba and Herentals.
“Yes I am a Dynamos son, I started my coaching career there and spent almost eight years there but look I am now at TelOne where my bread is buttered,” said Maruwa.
He worked at Dynamos under various coaches including the late David Mandigora, Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe, Lloyd Mutasa and Kalisto Pasuwa, before graduating to become head coach in December 2022.
“As a coach I don’t fear new challenges, I am not a one team coach and I can work in any environment.
“For now TelOne is my home and that’s where my food is coming from so I will do my best to improve the team.”
Maruwa did a decent job on the transfer market, bringing on board seasoned players like former Dynamos skipper Frank Makarati, Leeroy Murape, Bruno Mtigo and Tawanda Macheke.
Mtigo and Macheke were on target against Triangle United last weekend, with the other two goals coming from Blessing Sahondo and Washington Navaya.
“That was a massive win for us after a disappointing defeat against Herentals.
“We managed to recover in style.
“It was not an easy game but we managed to utilise our chances and I am happy the boys are trying to understand the way we want them to play,” said Maruwa.
For Maruwa this is a decent start to a season in which TelOne are expected to do better than last term when they fought relegation demons.
“It’s still work in progress, we have just played two games and we are trying new combinations every day.
“The way we finished last season gave us hope that we can improve as a team, meaning we are ready to compete.
“We have a good and balanced team.”
