PREPARATIONS for the much-awaited 2014 annual Chipinge Marwa Land Surveyors soccer tournament slated for December 21 and 22 are on track.
The tournament spokesperson, Farai Chijokwe, confirmed the developments.
The venue of the tourney will be Mutema Secondary and Manesa Primary schools respectively.
The annual competition which has gained popularity in the farming town is now in its fourth year and will see 18 teams drawn from across the district battling for the top prize.
The tournament which is bankrolled by Namibian-based land surveyor, Gibson Marwa, is arguably the best sponsored tournament Chipinge has ever witnessed.
Chijokwe said the organising committee met last Friday to finalize the fixtures and venues.
He said this year’s tournament had more accolades for teams as well as individual prizes.
“Preparations are on course and we are urging people from all walks of life in the district to come and rally behind their teams. We have increased the number of teams to 18 because there were a lot of inquiries from a number of teams in the district to compete in these competitions.
“We have arranged that all 18 teams will receive $300 without kicking a ball as appearance fees and this was done to help teams facing financial challenges to use that money to fulfill their fixtures. Since it will be a two-day tournament food and other services will be provided for away teams,” he said.
The prizes for the top four shall be $500, $400, $300, $200, while all the eight teams shall receive kits.
Chibuwe Rovers coach, Edmore Mabika, appreciated Gibson Marwa’s gesture of giving back to the community.
“We would like to thank Marwa for playing a social responsibility role by bankrolling one of the most exciting soccer tournaments in the district,” he said.
Teams to participate include Mutema, Kondo, Mbeure, Tonhorai, Tanganda, Maunganidze, New Year’s Gift, Zesa, Nyunga, Maronga, Chibuwe Rovers FC, Goko, B/Bridge, Manesa, Musapingura, Ausundi, Tongogara and Musani.
