TALENT Hunters Zimbabwe teamed up with a group of Mashonaland Central artists to stage a one-day Cup Clash at Wadzanai Shopping Centre in Shamva on Saturday as part of a unique approach to campaigning against drugs and substance abuse.
Running under the theme “Mash Central Ending Drug Abuse and GBV Musical Cup Clash”, the trophy was won by Zerah East.
The artists’ message was able to reach people of all ages, including students who were part of the crowd.
Talent Hunters Zimbabwe executive director, Timothy Mwawunidza, said their aim was to promote local talent and to spread awareness on drug and substance abuse and gender-based violence.
“We use music as a tool to engage with young people. We reached more than 5 000 people who attended the event,” said Mwawunidza.
Talent Hunters is a community-based group of young people aimed at promoting effective community development through arts at the grassroots level in Shamva District.
Its focus is on providing young people with a platform to showcase their talent in music, dance, drama and poetry while addressing social issues such as drug and substance abuse, gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS.
The Mash Central ending drug and substance abuse and gender-based violence musical cup clash is just one of the many events Talent Hunters Zimbabwe organises throughout the year to engage with young people and promote positive change in their communities.
