INFRASTRUCTURAL development projects spearheaded by the Second Republic across the country over the past five years were central to President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF’s resounding victory in the recently concluded harmonised elections, the party’s Mashonaland Central province chairperson, Cde Kazembe Kazembe, has said.
Speaking to journalists yesterday after leading a delegation of the party’s provincial leadership to congratulate President Mnangagwa on his re-election, Cde Kazembe said campaigning was “made easy” because of the Second Republic’s milestones.
ZANU PF won all 18 National Assembly seats in Mashonaland Central, becoming the only province where opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lost all urban constituencies. In the same province, President Mnangagwa garnered 372 451 votes, against 94 268 won by CCC’s Nelson Chamisa.
Cde Kazembe, who is also Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, said Mashonaland Central had played its role in protecting the county’s heritage.
“We are here on behalf of Mashonaland Central province,” he said.
“The province is very happy about the President’s victory and, as Mashonaland Central province, we are saying congratulations to President Mnangagwa.
“We are happy that the country remains in the safe hands of Dr E.D. Mnangagwa.
“So, we are over the moon as it is our wish to protect the revolution and the legacy of this country.”
He said his delegation also thanked the President for the development taking place in the province.
“Campaigning for the President and for ourselves was easy because of the developments that were done by the President.
“Development is taking place across the country and, as Mashonaland Central province, we are witnessing a lot of developments happening across the province, which were absent during the past 40 years, such as construction of the road to Kanyemba, construction of Semwa Dam, opening of Eureka and Shamva gold mines. There is also exploration drilling for oil and gas in Muzarabani.
“This made it easy for us during campaigns, as President Mnangagwa had already done most of the campaigning for us.”
Bindura North incoming legislator Cde Kenneth Musanhi said ZANU PF’s victory will ensure that the country continues with its development agenda.
“We had come to congratulate our President, HE President Mnangagwa, on his recent victory in the elections,” he said.
“This means our vision for 2030 is going to be successful. We are going to go ahead with our plans as a country.”
Other members of the delegation included Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Monica Mavunga, ZANU PF Politburo Deputy Secretary for Transport and Social Welfare Cde James Makamba, former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Cde Tsitsi Gezi; chiefs and youth representatives.
