The Mashonaland East Chiefs Assembly has mourned the death of Chief Mukota, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road traffic accident along the Marondera-Musami road last week.

Chairperson of the Mashonaland East Chiefs Assembly Senator Langton Chikukwa (Chief Nechombo), said the death of Chief Mukota, born Newton Kachepa, came as a shock to the assembly and the province had lost a hardworking man.

“On behalf of Mashonaland East Chiefs Assembly, we are saddened with the death of Chief Mukota,” he said. “Though he was just installed and had not been on the reigns for a long time, we are hurt that he passed away soon after his instalment.

“We were happy that he was installed and were looking forward to working well with him on many issues. We hoped that he was going to be the chief of all in his area. As an assembly, we were hoping that we were going to work closely in development issues. We looked forward to work together in all that. But God had other plans for him. It is painful. There is nothing we can do about it, God has made his decision. To his wife and children, we want to comfort them.

“This is the will of God and we leave all to the Almighty. We are all subject to death and we will all leave this earth. It is God’s way. So to the family, may you be comforted and healed from this loss. As an Assembly, with are with you in mourning.”

Chief Mukota was driving a Mazda BT50 vehicle towards Marondera with passengers on board.

On approaching the 23km peg along Marondera-Musami road, he lost control of the vehicle, hit a pedestrian who was on the side of the road, killing him instantly.

The Mazda BT50 overturned three times before landing on its wheels, and in the process killing the front passenger and injuring another six, including Chief Mukota.

Chief Mukota then succumbed to injuries while admitted at Marondera Hospital.
