Mash West celebrate milestones

Mashonaland West province is basking in the glory of surpassing its wheat target by 783ha after managing to put 34 783 ha under the cereal, representing a 2,7 percent increase.

This comes as the province has made strides in implementing its Provincial Development Plan and aligning it with the National Development Strategy (NDS1) towards Vision 2030.Speaking at the Provincial Development Committee meeting in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said the province has achieved several milestones, contributing to improved livelihoods.

The achievements, she said, were a result of increased interaction with stakeholders in the mining, wholesale, retail, and agriculture sectors to improve the ease of doing business.

“Now it is time for self-introspection, assessing ourselves whether we are on course to achieve our Provincial objectives,” said Minister Chombo.”It is time we start to tick some boxes and provide answers for some outstanding questions.  We will have to show more anticipation, flexibility, agility, resilience, and adaptation to meet the challenges we are facing.”

The minister hailed farmers in the province and the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development for working hard to surpass the target of 34 000ha.

She said councils in the province were also stepping up to the challenge of improving service delivery in line with the Government’s expectation, with all the 14 local authorities managing to finalise their development masterplans.

Minister Chombo told the provincial leadership that the meeting signified a collective commitment to the progress and prosperity of the Province.Among other achievements was the commissioning of classroom blocks at Gavhunga and Danangwe Primary Schools with support from the Zimplats Mhondoro-Ngezi-Chegutu-Zvimba Community Share Ownership Trust and other development partners.

The province also successfully commissioned a 3kv Solar system at Sandringham High School, handed over 300 blankets to elderly people in Norton Ward 7, and another 100 blankets to Norton Hospital with support from the Norton Business Community.
