“We are now carrying out our final preparations ahead of the elections next week with a series of rallies across the province so that all areas get the Zanu-PF gospel,” he said.
He said rallies were lined up in Siakobvu, Hurungwe East and West, among other areas in the province in the remaining days. Apart from individual candidate rallies and meetings, the province was carrying out constituency rallies.
He said victory was assured in the six seats lost to the MDC-T in 2008 which included Chinhoyi, Kadoma, Hurungwe West, Kariba, Chegutu West and Norton. The party has allowed candidates to fight it out in the constituencies they felt they had support and those more popular emerged to represent it through primary elections.
In previous elections some disgruntled supporters voted for the opponent in protest over alleged imposition of candidates.
Cde Mafa said the turnout at President Mugabe’s star rally in Chinhoyi where tens of thousands trooped from all corners of the province showed support. In Chinhoyi, Cde Philip Chiyangwa has been on a massive outreach campaign where he has been meeting people in wards and hearing their concerns. He has initiated programmes in livestock production and a dollar per individual burial society to afford people a decent burial at low cost.
