Mashingaidze: More than a side kick

IT was interesting to read last weekend that blundering and stammering Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze follows this instalment with keen interest.“I have a column that I am following with keen interest, one written by Va Shagare and it accuses me of being a side kick but

that is wrong,” Mashingaidze was quoted as saying on these pages last weekend.

Well Papa is not alone in following this column, millions others do. And oh yes Mashingaidze is called Papa, he had the moniker long before the likes of Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and Eubert Angel came on board. Now Mashingaidze says he is not a side kick of Dube and doesn’t take lightly to yours truly referring to him as one.

Well maybe Mashingaidze is right after all, he is not a Dube side kick. He is something worse, a Dube apologist and serial bootlicker. How do you explain the letter he wrote to Fifa as he desperately sought to have next weekend’s Extraordinary General Meeting put on ice? It was mischievous and full of lies but we will focus on the bootlicking for today.“The Association is broke and has had to depend on the benevolence of Zifa president Cuthbert Dube who has paid out close to a million dollars from his personal coffers.

“Those calling for Dr Dube’s ouster should be prepared to make good all that is owed by a broke institution… “There is a general economic slump in Zimbabwe which requires long term national solutions. Without Dr Dube’s financial assistance to Zifa there would have (been) no football in Zimbabwe right now,” reads the Zifa letter to Fifa.

Come on Papa Mash, even by your low standards this is legendary.
Are sure there would be no football in Zimbabwe without the support of Dube? Are you smoking palm tree my guy? And just a quick one, why do you change the sum that our good Dr Dube has ploughed into our game? For years the story from your office to us has been that Dr Dube has pumped in over $2 million of his money into the association. However, to Fifa you say it’s close to a million.May we get an answer to that one?

You can stammer all night long, we will listen because we need an answer. Is it over $2 million or nearly a million bucks? Maybe you have done a Gideon Gono and slashed some zeros. Away from Mashingaidze and his shameful bootlicking, as the Saturday meeting draws closer those seeking to recall Dube should be smart, very smart. This one is a game of numbers.Yes the agenda circulated says there will be a move to revoke the mandate of the Zifa president but having an item on the agenda and successfully implementing it are two different things.

Dube appears to hold all the aces going into the crucial meeting and it’s by no coincidence. The machinery that has won him two terms in office was set in motion weeks ago to secure the numbers needed to survive a vote of no confidence bid. When the tide appeared to be moving in fast on him Dube mooted his controversial nationwide tour but that was put on hold for reasons we can only speculate about.

The gossipers say the Zifa boss was shaken by a meeting he held with some high ranking officials on the eve of his planned trip to Gweru.
That meeting shook him to the core and forced him to call off the journey to the Midlands capital, they say.
I don’t buy that line.

I am certain Dube touched base with his point men in all the provinces and the sign he got from most centers was the thumbs up.
Yes you might have guys like the firebrand Austin Chishanga, the Midlands provincial chairman, coming out to say Dube is not welcome in their zone but this looks like talk aimed at stinging the Zifa boss into action.

The action can be a visit, a phone call or the address of a financial problem the Zifa councilors always table before Dube each time they get a chance to meet him.

Now to expect these people to vote Dube out on Saturday is expecting a lot even in these days of miracle money, miracle babies and miracle erections.

The Saturday meeting will be a numbers game and Dube –with the help of his bootlicker –in – chief Mashingaidze – is a master at numbers game , financial or otherwise.
