ZIFA general secretary Jonathan Mashingaidze’s future at the national association remains uncertain following the expiry of his contract on April 1 amid reports the executive is head hunting a replacement. Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa yesterday said the association would review Mashingaidze’s contract soon.
Mashingaidze signed a five-year contract during Cuthbert Dube’s Zifa administration in 2011. “The executive committee will look into that issue once I return from my short leave,” said Chiyangwa, who is presently in South Africa.
However, Mashingaidze is reporting for work and was seen doing some errands for the association during the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Zimbabwe and Botswana at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
He said he was doing his duties as normal and was not even aware of the expiry of his contract. “I’m not so sure where all this is coming from. I’m doing my normal duties as Zifa head of secretariat,” said Mashingaidze.
Meanwhile, Fifa manager for Development programmes (Africa) Solomon Mudenge yesterday embarked on a four-day visit to the country to talk on football development.
Mudenge, a Zimbabwean national, will be apprised on the association’s activities and status of Zimbabwean football. The Zifa secretariat will also gain more information about Fifa development programmes and activities relevant to their functional areas.
