MASHONALAND have announced their squad for the Bowls Inter-district tournament expected to get underway in August at Avondale Bowling Club in Harare.
The competition, which has been slated for the Heroes holidays, is scheduled for August 9 to 11 and will also feature bowlers from Mashonaland West and Matabeleland.
The competition is held every year and is one of the premier events on the calendar.
The bowlers will compete in all the categories — Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.

Mike Eaton, who has been participating in the Inter-Districts for years, said he was looking forward to the big event.
Eaton is a member of Alexandra Sports Club.

“We have started our preparations and I believe we stand a good chance of winning, but it’s usually difficult to tell which province will win because there is a lot of competition from the  other bowlers,” said Eaton.

Matabeleland are the defending champions in both the men’s and the women’s competitions, but the hosts Mashonaland believe this year will be a different game.
Mashonaland will be represented by Eaton, Tom Craven, Allan Dykes Tony Havercroft, Collin Robertson, Richie Hayden, Manuel Silva, Pierre de Villiers and Aaron Chilundo.

Kerry Craven, Julie Barnes, Ally Dale, Debbie Robertson and Dru Smith will battle it out in the women’s section.
“We had our first official training last Sunday and we are going to have another on June 28 and it went well.

“This year it is going to be different.
“We have a good side and we have higher chances of winning the event,” said Smith.
