IT keeps on getting better for United States-based Zimbabwean tennis coach Julius Mashonganyika.

It was “game, set and match” for Mashonganyika who was on cloud nine at the weekend after he received the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Volunteer Service Award.

Mashonganyika received the prestigious award during the USTA 2026 Annual Meeting and Conference held in Orlando, Florida.

The seasoned Zimbabwean coach, a Leesburg resident, was recognised by the USTA for his dedication and commitment to growing the sport of tennis in the United States and around the globe

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub from his base in Virginia, Mashonganyika could not hide his excitement after his latest achievement in his journey as a professional tennis coach.

“I am honoured to share that I attended the United States Tennis Association (USTA) 2026 Annual Meeting and Conference held in Orlando on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

“During this prestigious event, I was privileged to receive the USTA National Volunteer Service Award, recognising my dedication and contributions to the development and growth of tennis within the community.

“This award is a reflection of the collective support, encouragement, and commitment from the many players, families, organisations, and communities I have had the honour to serve,” Mashonganyika said.

Mashonganyika was one of 80 national volunteers to receive a USTA award in recognition of volunteer service and contributions to the sport during a March 28 reception in Orlando.

During the 2026 Annual Meeting and Conference, nearly 1 000 USTA members, who included Mashonganyika, gathered to celebrate the power of tennis.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this award,” said Mashonganyika. “Tennis has given me so much, and I remain committed to giving back by developing players and strengthening our communities through the game.”

This recognition highlights not only Mashonganyika’s achievements but also his unwavering passion for service and his commitment to growing the game of tennis for future generations.

Born and bred in the high-density suburb of Mufakose in Harare, Zimbabwe, Mashonganyika, 52, has served the USTA Mid-Atlantic region since becoming a US citizen in 2017.
