FALCON Golf Club will host to the inaugural Mashwede Charity Cup, which we see professional and amateur golfers, competing in a single round.
The tournament is the brainchild of businessman, Alex “Dr Mash” Mashamhanda, whose business entities seek to raise funds for the less privileged.
The Mashwede Charity Cup comes barely a few months after the entrepreneur also successfully hosted the Mashwede Open Pro-Am, at the same venue, where he is a trustee.
Tendai Mashamhanda, one of the organisers of the tournament, said they were looking forward to a good turnout at Falcon.
“We are very pleased to be holding this event, which comes a few months after we successfully hosted the Mashwede Open, at the same venue,’’ he said.
‘‘The event is an open tournament and professionals will play off scratch and we are hopeful that we will have a huge field.
‘‘The idea came after one of the directors, Tapiwa Mashamhanda, draws nearer to his 35th birthday, on November 23, and we saw it right to do something, for the less privileged.
‘‘We are seeking to raise some funds, which will help us pay school fees for yet to be identified, children homes.
‘‘This is a festive season and we also expect to extend a hand to those who are in need because we value social and corporate responsibility in our entity.’’
Mashamhanda said they were happy with the partnership they have had with the golf fraternity and they hope the Charity Cup will become an annual event.
“For a start, we used to have the Pro-Am but we have since extended our wings, so that we give back to the society.
‘‘The golf fraternity has been wonderful to us and Falcon is home to us as we have always enjoy cordial relations with the club.’’
Meanwhile, Scott Vincent bounced back to make the cut yesterday in Japanese Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix, when he had rounds of 68 and 70.
The Zimbabwean, who missed the cut last week, was tied on position 21st, after the two opening qualifying rounds.
