Masiyembumbi knocks out Ncube

BULAWAYO amateur boxer Samson Masiyembumbi lived up to expectations, beating Andile Ncube at a 12-bout tournament held at Manor Hotel on Saturday. Boxing enthusiasts witnessed an unforgettable fight between Masiyembumbi and Ncube, in a spectacular showing that ended with a knockout. The event featured seven weight divisions which were bantamweight, lightweight, light welterweight, catchweight, light flyweight, welterweight and middleweight.

Twenty six city boxers among them some of the city’s favourites, Samson Masiyembumbi, Prince Musona, Wiseman Tshuma, Everson Mushambudzi, Ntando Dube and Prosper Shumba were in action.

Ezwell Ndlovu, the vice chairperson of the Bulawayo Amateur Boxing Association, said the tournament was part of the preparations for some of the city’s pugilists who will be taking part in the forthcoming Region Five Games this December.

In the bantamweight category, Tshuma from Nketa Boxing Club fighting from the red corner beat teammate Emmanuel Katsaruware on points and Percy Boxing Club’s Ntando Dube won his fight against Future Nkomo from Lobengula Boxing Club, while Tshuma claimed a second victory against Gweru’s guest boxer Kudakwashe Chaurura.
In the lightweight category Everson Musambidzi knocked out Prosper Shumba.

Shumba was to turn the tide on Denzel Mpofu in his second fight while Milton Moyo won on points against Mushambidzi.
