URBAN grooves bad boy Maskiri is now a smart man after he was circumcised in Harare yesterday at the City Centre Male Circumcision clinic, a procedure he described as painless and overdue. Maskiri, real name Alishias Musimbe, has joined fellow artistes in the Male Circumcision Celebrity Campaign that encourages artistes to lead by example and get circumcised.
Last month Jah Prayzah motivated Young Igwe, Peter Moyo, who got circumcised together with Albert Nyathi in Bulawayo.
In an interview Maskiri said he got circumcised because he wanted to lead by example.
“I did it because I wanted to be smart and to lead by example. Getting circumcised is good for one’s health and I thought it best that I do so. The method Prepex is painless and takes a short time. As I speak I am now going home,” he said.
Prepex is a non-surgical circumcision device which uses rubber bands. It was developed by Circ MedTech, an Israeli company founded in 2009.
A plastic ring is inserted inside the foreskin and a rubber ring is placed on the outer foreskin, on top of the inner ring.
The outer ring clamps on the inner ring stopping the flow of blood to that part of the foreskin that is to be removed.
Within a week the foreskin dies from a lack of oxygen and either falls off on its own or is easily cut off; no anaesthesia or sutures are required.
It is a better alternative than its surgical counterpart in that it can be performed in a non-sterile setting.
This makes it more ideal for most African countries with limited facilities and personnel to perform the procedure.
Maskiri said he got support from his girlfriend who is happy about what he did.
The Wenera hit-maker said he would be back in Bulawayo on Monday to put final touches to his video for the track Usanyepere vhanu he did with Pauline.
“I have a new track which I did with Pauline so I will be in Blues to meet up with Andy Cutta to put final touches on the video. I also have a track dedicated to the circumcision drive called Tapinda muSmart,” he said.
Other artistes that have been circumcised include, self-proclaimed King of Zim Dancehall Winky D and Sulumani Chimbetu.
