UP-and-COMING female artiste Zandile Masuku is geared for her first solo exhibition titled Dot Connected which will be held next week at the National Gallery in Bulawayo.A total of 30 pieces of art will be on display during the exhibition. Lovers of art will be taken through a wide variety of social issues such as climate change, gender, identity, spirituality and cosmic issues.
Masuku who is into painting and drawing, said her pieces of work are so unique as they seek to challenge society to think beyond everyday life and to find solutions to their hardships.
“Life is indeed a journey and people face hindrances and hardships along the way.
“We have the natural challenge of climate change that cuts across all nations. Some problems include issues of identity, spiritualism and gender.
“The whole purpose of this exhibition is to offer solutions to these issues and probably spur a change of behaviour among people,” said the 30-year-old artist.
In this contemporary society, everybody is said to be connected to someone. And the Internet has enhanced the level of these connections.
Hence the theme Dot Connected which is aimed at encouraging people to use their connections and relations to come up with initiatives of solving the social ills that affect them.
Masuku who studied architecture at the University of Brighton, England, was last year chosen as the best artist at an exhibition hosted by the Bulawayo Avante Garde at the Gallery.
Although the industry is predominantly a male domain, it was the budding artist’s work of fine art on climate change which saw Masuku beating her male counterparts.
She is one of the few female artists who are into fine art at the gallery.
